Meet the volunteers: The Smiths

Meet the volunteers in the Green Museum's old forge as they work at the forge and tame iron using fire, hammer and anvil, as humans have done since prehistoric times, and as has long been done at Gammel Estrup.

The forge was built in 1761 as part of the large complex of farm buildings that were built at Gl. Estrup in the 17th and 18th centuries. The forge is located on the outermost edge of the farm buildings, where the possibility of stopping a fire from spreading was greatest.

In the old, traditional forge, The Green Museum Smedelaug shows the historical craftsmanship with fire in the ax and the pounding of the hammer against the anvil, while they pour out experiences and stories from life as blacksmiths.
