Explore Denmark's Christmas history over the past 300 years: An atmospheric interactive journey through time about customs, traditions and the development to modern sustainability
CHRISTMAS FOREVER
Step into our timeless exhibition...
Step into our timeless exhibition ‚Christmas of All Time‛ and experience Denmark's Christmas history and the transformation of the Christmas tree through the ages. The exhibition takes you on a journey through time, exploring the roots of Danish traditions and following the development of the Christmas tree from its humble beginnings to today's colorful splendor.
In Denmark, Christmas is more than just a festive season; it is a deeply rooted cultural history. Through tableaus set up, the last 300 years of Christmas are presented through period-specific interactive Christmas rooms. Here you can, for example, see how Christmas tree decorations have evolved from edible decorations to beautifully designed glass baubles and colorful twinkling Christmas tree lights.

The Christmas tree's fascinating journey through time...
The exhibition also presents the fascinating journey through time of the Christmas tree in Denmark. From the first simple trees in the homes of the wealthy to the widespread phenomenon we know today. Apple slices and Christmas hearts have adorned the branches, and the Christmas tree has become a symbol of the atmosphere and tradition that define Danish Christmas.
In addition, the Danish kitchen garden is also explored, where kale was once more than just a part of Christmas dinner. 150 years ago, kale was used as a surprising poor man's Christmas tree, and the Danish garden became, with the creativity of the population, a magical space filled with Christmas tradition.
In the barn you will find the animals that also play a central role in the Christmas story. Previously, the slaughter of the pig marked the beginning of Christmas. Here at the Green Museum, we of course do not slaughter the animals in connection with Christmas. But their important role in the Christmas story can still be experienced. Not least, the animals also play an important role in the story of the elves. The mythology of the elves and their protection of the farm is part of the Christmas story, which celebrates the harmony of both man and nature.

Let yourself be immersed...

The conclusion of our exhibition finds its contemporary focus in sustainability, a value that today plays a central role in our awareness of the environment and the future of the planet. We have dedicated a special area to explore today's Christmas trees and their sustainability.
