THE HOUSE OF FOOD – Food History Museum Exhibition
Food museum in Gammel Estrup
In the HOUSE OF FOOD you can do more than just experience the history of food. Here you can taste, smell and literally chop your way through history when you, as participants in one of the many cooking schools and events, put on an apron and hold a knife. A food museum full of experiences.
THE HOUSE OF FOOD is an unusual museum experience where you embark on a journey through food history and cook in 4 authentic kitchens:
A fireplace kitchen from the 17th century, a wood-burning stove kitchen from the 1880s, a World War II kitchen and the floral and brown/orange kitchen from the 1960s/70s.
Many of the ingredients we use for cooking schools and events are harvested in the museum's agricultural botanical garden, where we have the old Danish varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs. And when there are no events in MADENS HUS, the kitchens are open to the public.
If the combination of food and history sounds interesting, then our themed lunches and gourmet dinners It might be something for you.

Exciting food experiences at the Green Museum!

What guests say about the food museum's experiences
”
5 stars out of 5
We sent eight expectant girls off to cooking school on Thursday, October 26. The girls had a really good afternoon and evening with exciting and tasty experiences. Where the girls prepared their own food – and collected vegetables from the museum's garden – under the expert guidance of the local 'master chef'.
Thank you to the lovely staff for a great experience in wonderfully cozy surroundings!
Definitely worthy of a recommendation "

It should be a curriculum, whether you are young or old.”

”
It was a great experience to be allowed to bone a club from a wild red deer from Djursland.
And not least, to help prepare the animal under the expert supervision of star chef Per Mandrup. Not to mention the pleasure of eating the subsequent 5-course luxury game menu... followed by delicious pancakes. "
