Under the Sun

A story about the last 80 years of chasing the good life

How did we get here – and what does it take to move forward?

Under the Sun is the Green Museum's new, large signature exhibition. A sensual, artistic and thought-provoking exhibition where we invite you on a journey through the last eight decades of Danish history – told with a focus on our four core areas: hunting, forestry, agriculture and food.

During this period, the world's population has tripled, and we now face major challenges, including climate and biodiversity. How did we get here – and what is needed to move forward?

An exhibition in the light of the sun

In the middle of the exhibition, a large, luminous sun – five meters in diameter – floats. It symbolizes both the center of life and the exhibition, and acts as a visual and sensory landmark for the entire museum. From this sun, eight “sunbeams” radiate out – one for each decade from 1950 to the present.

In the eight episodes, you are taken back in time and encounter the decade as it was experienced by those who lived in it. The presentation takes place in the present and on contemporary terms – not with hindsight or raised fingers, but with the desire to understand choices, values and realities as they were then.

Experience history with all your senses

Under the Sun is not just an exhibition you see – it is an exhibition you feel. Through films, audio stories, iconic objects and interactive stations you can sense, experience and immerse yourself in themes such as food, the environment, consumption, technology and humanity's relationship with nature.

In every corner of the exhibition you will find a sensory immersion table. Here you can get up close to individual topics or decades and gain new perspectives – regardless of whether you are a curious first-time visitor or have a special professional interest.

For everyone - at your pace

The exhibition is designed with the intention that everyone should be able to take something away from it – regardless of age, background or qualifications. You can choose to experience the entire exhibition in half an hour or spend several hours going in depth. And regardless of the pace, both children and adults can learn something along the way.

We look forward to welcoming you – Under the Sun.

The exhibition is generously supported by AP Møller and Wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller's Foundation for General Purposes with 11 million DKK, the Augustinus Foundation with 2 million DKK and the Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik's Foundation with 100,000 DKK.

The 5-meter-high sun towers over the entire exhibition.
