LIVING MUSEUM / recurring / Free when admission is paid
Meet the Green Museum's volunteer beekeepers in the beekeepers' guild as they look after the museum's historic apiary, which is located close to the forest and meadow between Gl. Estrup's breeding buildings and Smedjen.
The Green Museum's apiary consists of various historical hive types and shows the development of beekeeping from around 1850 to the present. A total of 15 bee colonies live and reside in the apiary, and they are cared for and tended by the museum's volunteer beekeepers.
The work with the bees and the honey that is harvested is determined by the bees' lives and the seasons. This means that it is especially during the summer period that the beekeepers look after the bees and hives. Meet them at the apiary, where it is buzzing with life and the beekeepers are happy to tell you about the wonderful world of bees and show you how it unfolds in the historic hives.
The honey that is harvested is sold in the museum shop and at selected events, such as the museum's Christmas market.
