Museum guests planted a forest the size of two football fields

Two guests about to sow tree seeds

Two guests are sowing some of the 500+ tree seeds that were sown during the winter holidays.

During the winter holidays, there were lots of happy guests of all ages who participated in the many free activities at the Green Museum, helping to create a good start to the museum's 2023 season.

With a focus on the forest and wood as a material, a large indoor forest experience was offered in and around the museum's atmospheric exhibition. 'STORT – Man and the Forest'.

The newest addition to the exhibition, the dinghy Afrodite, was both examined and enjoyed, as many enthusiastic guests climbed into the beautiful dinghy, which we have borrowed from Limfjord Museum.

In addition, there was of course also sawing with a two-man saw, building with large wooden blocks, solving forest quizzes and much more, all of which is related to 'Man and the Forest'.

But what was probably most gratifying for the museum was that over 500 visitors sowed their own tree seeds at the museum, which they then took home to care for and nurture, and hopefully eventually plant in, for example, their own garden.

Because 500 trees can be equivalent to about two football fields (one hectare) of forest that the museum's guests have helped to sow - once the small seeds have grown big and strong and about 25 meters tall.

Because if you look at the figures that the Forest and Landscape Research Centre has published in connection with some of their 400 long-term forest trials, it appears that by planting, for example, Norway spruce (one of the four trees you could plant at the Green Museum during the winter holidays), one hectare of Norway spruce, where the trees are approx. 25-30 meters high, consists of approx. 400 trees (Source: https://www.skoven-i-skolen.dk/content/skovdyrkning).

Free annual pass for paying guests

Throughout the winter holidays, there was a free upgrade of the purchased day ticket to an annual pass for museum visitors. An offer that pleased the many guests, but also pleased the museum employees, as it hopefully means that many people will have the opportunity to visit the museum and experience the many exhibitions indoors and, not least, outdoors, where the changing seasons help to make each visit completely unique.

"At The Green Museum, we offer a wealth of exhibitions, experiences and perspectives. In fact, our indoor and outdoor exhibition areas cover 6,000 m2 and 60,000 m2 respectively, which is equivalent to approximately 10 football fields – far more than you can explore in one day. With the free upgrade of the entrance ticket to an annual pass, we hope that more people will have the opportunity to return and experience the museum's many offerings throughout the year," says Anne Bjerrekær, director of The Green Museum.

You still have the opportunity to take advantage of this great offer, as it is valid throughout February. So if you didn't get to visit us during the winter holidays, the free upgrade of the purchased entrance ticket is a good reason to stop by during February - and thus ensure access to our many exciting activities and interesting exhibitions for the rest of the year.
