Permanent exhibitions at The Green Museum
There are many different things happening at the Green Museum every day of the week, and it can be difficult to experience it all. But no matter how often you visit, you will always have the opportunity to visit and interact with our permanent exhibitionsHere you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in more than 6,000 years of Danish history with exhibitions covering several different areas - each one had an influence on the ordinary citizen and their everyday lives.
You can plan your trip as a class excursion, as some alternative Christmas activities or possible summer holiday activities for the children.
We always have eight permanent exhibitions at the Green Museum. An example of one of these is called "Meat on the Table", which tells the story of the butcher's profession, and how we went from selling meat at small local markets to the large-scale industrialization of sales across the country. Here you can follow the story of how the cooperative movement revolutionized the butchery industry and changed the eating habits of Danes in the early 1900s. You can experience iconic elements such as the Danish hot dog stand and gain insight into how campaigns such as 'Pig on the Fork' changed our view of meat.
Another example is the exhibition about the Danish kitchen, which deals with how Danish food history has developed between 1950 and 2010. Here, the story is told about how we have gone from the great frugality in the cooling water of the Second World War, to the great focus on health, ecology and sustainability. The exhibition delves into how women entered the labor market, and how the kitchen and cooking were influenced by, among other things, recipe books and Karolines Køkken.
Experiences for the whole class
There will also be the opportunity to combine the exhibitions with our teaching process; here there is the opportunity for students to go on a class excursion to the museum, where they will be taught within a specific area, which is planned in collaboration with the teachers, and they will try their hand at hands-on activities.
Click on the different areas and learn more about the individual exhibitions and their stories.
