Winter holiday with indoor forest activities

The many fun forest activities are always a hit, including not least the opportunity to saw large pieces of wood with one of the large two-man saws.

The many fun forest activities are always a hit, including not least the opportunity to saw large pieces of wood with one of the large two-man saws.

During the winter holidays, you can experience a wealth of exciting and educational activities for the whole family when we invite you inside for the opening of the 2023 season in the indoor 800 m2 forest starting on February 11th.

The forest and the individual plant are an incredibly important resource for us humans. Not only in relation to photosynthesis and the production of oxygen. But at the same time, wood is a widely used material that we humans have used throughout history for everything from small matches to huge buildings and ships.

But when you stand in the middle of the forest, it can be difficult to see the forest for the trees – but fortunately, it is just the opposite with knowledge; because when you stand in the middle of the Green Museum's indoor forest and the exhibition 'STORT – man and the forest', you can't help but see all the knowledge around you in the forest.

Bring your own tree home

During the winter holidays, the trees in the Green Museum's indoor forest are teeming with exciting activities and initiatives, all of which are free when the entrance fee is paid for adults (for young people under 18, admission is always free).

For example, you can make your own pot from recycled materials, sow a tree seed and take it home to stand on the windowsill and watch it grow.

You can also test your knowledge in the museum's winter holiday quiz, or build with a whole cubic meter of wood.

Life as a forest worker

For some of us, the forest is a sanctuary and a sacred oasis in a busy everyday life with work and obligations. But for others, the forest is not only a sanctuary, but also a job with obligations. And right now you can get a small taste of what it means to be a forest worker; when you visit the museum and experience the indoor forest and the many offers.

Because in true forest worker style, you can get to saw with the big old-fashioned two-man saw; and maybe even while dressed as a forest worker – in real forest worker clothes. You can also try your hand at a test of strength like lifting wood, in true forest worker style and following instructions from 1909.

You can also learn to distinguish between the different trees based on, for example, leaves or branches; but also count tree rings or just sit quietly in our indoor forest and relax to the sound of birdsong and the gentle rustling of the wind in the leaves; perhaps while meditating on life. Or maybe you would rather sit and draw a little and speculate about how we will use either the forest or wood as a material in the future.

The newest addition to the exhibition BIG

When the museum opens for the winter holidays, it will be with a BIG addition to the exhibition. The museum has just borrowed a lynx dinghy named Afrodite from the Limfjord Museum, which you can both admire and try sitting in – while thinking about what life as a fisherman was like in the past.

The museum opens on February 11th at 10 am, and is open every day during the winter holidays until 4 pm – and remember that the ticket to the Green Museum also gives access to our great neighboring museum, Gammel Estrup Denmark's Manor Museum.
