Would you like to help The Green Museum?

Thea Jul Nielsen stands by her favorite tree, the hanging birch
Do you have a tree that means something special to you? In connection with the development of a new theme for the exhibition BIG – Man and the Forest We are looking for people from all over the country who have the courage to talk about their particular tree.
The exhibition BIG – Man and the Forest is already part of the Green Museum, and now we are developing it with a new theme. In this context, we are looking for stories about trees that have a very special meaning for the individual.
Is there a particular tree you have a relationship with? One that means something to you, one associated with good memories, or one you always notice?
Then you have the opportunity to have your story included as part of the exhibition.
A tree with meaning
One of the elements in the development of BIG focuses on man's relationship with nature - here the relationship we each have with a particular tree. How a tree can take on personal meaning and become a part of our lives and memories.
Your story helps give that perspective a voice in the exhibition.
How to participate
If you would like to join us, we will arrange a meeting at your tree.
- The conversation lasts approx. 30 minutes
- We talk about the importance of trees for you
- The conversation will be filmed and edited into a short video.
- The video will be part of the exhibition
Write to us at info@dgmuseum.dk and briefly tell us about your tree and its location.
Part of a larger theme
Oak trees can grow old, very old… and big! Denmark’s oldest living thing is the King Oak, which stands in Jægerspris Nordskov. It is estimated to be up to 2,000 years old and, when it was largest, had a trunk with a circumference of more than 14 meters. The King Oak is not alone. Giant oaks, monument oaks, or veteran oaks, as they are also called, stand all over the Danish landscape and tell both history and stories. But why are it precisely these oaks that have been preserved? What makes them so special?
”"Once the natural sands are properly awakened, then one will […] probably leave the old venerable oak standing in the cornfield or the forest reserve, even if it is not worth it"”
Opens in the fall
The new theme in BIG – Man and the Forest opens in the fall. As a participant, you will receive more information about the opening around September 1st.
