Aim for the autumn holidays
The opportunity to shoot with a bow and arrow is always popular, both among children and adults.
During the autumn holidays, the whole family can explore the history of hunting at the Green Museum in Auning. With the museum's activity package, you can try your hand at bow hunting and decorate your own arrow, while all guests can also taste game and solve tasks related to hunting.
How does it feel to draw a bow and take aim from a hunting tower? And why have people throughout history hunted with bows and arrows?
Children and adults can learn more about this during the autumn holidays at the Green Museum, where the history of hunting can not only be seen and read about – it can also be experienced.
Take aim from the hunting tower
From Saturday, October 10th through Sunday, October 18th, the whole family can try their hand at one of the oldest forms of hunting: bow hunting.
In the exhibition STORT, the hunting tower and shooting range form the framework for a large part of the autumn holiday activities. With the activity package, you can take a seat in the tower, string your bow and try out what it's like to shoot from a different angle than usual. Then it's all about staying focused and seeing if the arrow hits its target.
With the museum's activity package, you can also make your own arrow and decorate it with colors – also called cresting – before testing it on the shooting range. Of course, you get to take the arrow home afterwards.
The activity package costs 30 DKK and consists of an arrow that you decorate yourself and then try out on the shooting range. In addition, you can taste game for free and explore a hunting activity booklet with tasks and stories about hunting. The activities can be tried every day between 10:00 and 16:30.
Explore the museum's exhibitions
The autumn holidays are also an opportunity to explore the Green Museum's many stories about hunting, the forest, agriculture and the cultural history of food.
STORT not only provides a framework for holiday activities, but is also part of the museum experience, and around the museum, both children and adults can continue their exploration among objects and stories from our common history.
Every day during the autumn holidays there is also the opportunity to join a free introduction to the signature exhibition. Under the Sun from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Here, one of the museum's presenters takes guests through some of the exhibition's stories about the Danes' pursuit of the good life over the past 80 years.
The tour is included in the entrance ticket and does not require registration.
History lives outside the showcases
Cresting, the decoration of the arrow, was an important part of hunting in the past.
At the Green Museum, history is not only found in the exhibitions.
During the autumn holidays, the museum's volunteers help bring history to life. Around the museum, guests can meet people who, with their knowledge, experience and commitment, provide insight into the crafts, work and everyday life of yesteryear - and who are happy to share stories with curious children and adults.
The story continues outside as well. Plants worthy of conservation grow in the kitchen garden, and in the museum's fields and stables you can meet old Danish livestock breeds. Together they tell the story of life, work and nature in Denmark through generations.
It is precisely the combination of exhibitions, activities, people, animals and living cultural heritage that means that a visit to the Green Museum can also be experienced with the hands, the senses and curiosity.
