Autumn break at the Green Museum

Shooting at our archery range

It's going to be wild and BIG during the fall break!

Autumn holiday for the whole family in the spirit of hunting at The Green Museum

Bring the whole family to the Green Museum during the autumn holidays, where we have put together an exciting week filled with fun activities and unique experiences with the theme of hunting. You will be able to explore the museum's fascinating exhibitions, meet dedicated experts and volunteers, and participate in creative workshops.

NOTE: The program below is for 2025 – this year's program will be published as soon as it is complete.

Children can try their hand at our indoor archery range, decorate their own arrows in the popular arrow workshop and see the world from a child-sized hunting tower. We also offer fun tasks in our 'hunting activity booklet' – perfect for engaging curious minds in the museum's atmospheric surroundings.

The fall break is the perfect opportunity to give the whole family an experience of both learning and play, and with the activity package for only 30 kroner (after the entrance fee has been paid), there are plenty of opportunities to take something very special home from the day.

Time: October 11 – 19, 2025, 10 am – 5 pm.

Price: Admission 160 DKK adults / FREE for young people under 18. See possible prices for activities below.

ACTIVITY PACK: CRESTING – PUT YOUR MARK ON YOUR ARROW AND SHOOT AT THE ARCH RANGE

BIG / every day 10 am – 5 pm / 30 kr. per arrow + a trip to the shooting range / Best from 6 years old – ALSO for adults

When many archers practice on the shooting range, it is important to be able to recognize their arrow again. That is why many arrows are equipped with special characteristics. For example, arrows decorated with runic symbols that are more than 1,500 years old have been found. Today, the decoration of arrows is called cresting. During the autumn holidays, you can decorate your own arrow in the STORT exhibition before trying to shoot with it on our new indoor archery range.

The price also includes three test shots. When you are satisfied with your arrow, you will of course take it home.

Autumn holiday with children at The Green Museum

The fall break is the perfect time to spend quality time with the family, and at Det Grønne Museum there are a host of activities that make the visit unforgettable for both children and adults. If you are looking for fall break activities that are both fun and educational, then our museum is an obvious choice. Here, children can delve into history, play in our large outdoor areas, and participate in exciting fall break experiences that bring the past to life in a fun and interactive way.

Make the fall break special by letting your children experience what life was like in the countryside in the old days. Our activities are tailored to engage little ones and give them an understanding of the history of hunting. These fall break activities for kids ensure that the whole family has a wonderful day filled with learning and play.

Sink your teeth into the venison

LARGE / EVERY DAY 10 AM – 5 PM / FREE WHEN ENTRANCE IS PAID

Sink your teeth into smoked venison sausages. Preserving foods so they last has always been a challenge. And smoking has been one of the tastiest methods. At least for some foods. Venison sausages are one of them – and this fall break you can taste it for yourself.

Meet the volunteers every day during the autumn holidays

Most days during the autumn holidays you can also meet some of our many volunteers who are ready to both show their skills and share their knowledge and stories.

You can see in the calendar what days and times the different guilds are at the museum.

The blacksmith's guild:
Meet the volunteers in the Green Museum's old forge as they work at the forge and tame iron using fire, hammer and anvil, as humans have done since prehistoric times, and as has long been done at Gammel Estrup.

The visiting hosts:
Meet the Visitor Hosts as they talk about the large agricultural and forestry machines, carts and tools that stand in a row in the museum's Visitor's Magazine.

Tractor Guild:
Meet the volunteers in the Tractor Workshop, where they work on many types of tasks. For example, the machines come for inspection and repair in the Tractor Workshop before the museum volunteers use them in their work on the Historic Fields.

The Boys and Girls' Club:
It is possible to experience the passage of time at the Green Museum throughout the year.
During the autumn holidays, it is Karle- og Pigelauget that takes beets out into the fields in the historic fields.

And everything else...

In the rest of the museum you will still find plenty of great experiences. Experience the exhibition 'Gold Grain – The History of Breeding' and take an interactive journey through Denmark's breeding history, the Visitor Magazine shows our large machines from the forest and agriculture – and much more. The garden offers autumn crops, and the wildlife continues undeterred between the apple trees on our organic farm.

If you get hungry along the way, restaurant Den Gamle Stald is also worth a visit.

See you for a WILD autumn holiday at The Green Museum!
