Traces in nature

Our nature is full of life. However, many of the species are rarely seen, as they are either nocturnal or well camouflaged. We can still find evidence that they live here by looking for the tracks they leave behind.

Museum exhibitions

Age-appropriate dialogue-based tour of the museum's exhibitions, focusing on the tracks and markings that animals leave behind on their journey through the forest and fields.

Activity

We take the students to selected locations in the forests close to the museum, where the perception of the surrounding nature is in focus. Here, depending on the grade level, they will be told about and/or given tasks that sharpen the students' observation skills in terms of discovering and examining traces of forest wildlife, from insects to mammals and predators. The animals' activity is put in context with their habitats and the factors that determine their life. On the trip, for example, food traces and excrement are collected, which are taken back for further examination in the Nature Workshop.

When you are trained to look in the right places, you get an extra dimension out of your family outing, and the more you become aware, the more you want to engage in issues that concern our shared nature and human impact on it.

In the Nature Workshop, elementary and middle school students take a closer look at selected species - both animals, trees and plants from Danish nature, and make casts of various animal tracks, study feathers, fur and bones under a microscope, cones, seeds and fruits, and find connections between the animals' appearance and lifestyle.

Preschool students will focus their work in the Nature Workshop on examining and determining collected animal tracks, examining and describing human interaction with nature/habitats and consequences in relation to certain species throughout history, and finally articulating contemporary dilemmas based on different views of nature.
