The second leads past Mimir's well to Jotunheim. The third passes Hvergelmer and leads to Niflheim. In the crown of Yggdrasil live four deer, Dain, Dvalin, Dunør and Duratro, who eat the tree's fresh leaves. At the top sits an eagle and on its beak the hawk Vederföln, who looks out over the world. A small squirrel, Ratatosk, darts up and down the trunk and brings new things from the roots to the top. During Ragnarok, the tree is uprooted and burned as a result of the great forest fires that are raging at that time.
Vikings circa 800 – 1,100 AD.
