Designed as stylized snakes, which according to the saga had great significance for the time, perhaps because of its geometry, as it could be shaped as circles, squares, etc., which were important religious symbols. It was associated with water and fertility and, as a gatekeeper to the underworld, could also guard earthly and spiritual values.
According to belief, the snake's change of sex made it immortal.
