Christmas traditions
The gnome or the farm boy, as he was also called, had to have his rice porridge every single day during the Christmas month, then as now, if you wanted to avoid him teasing, or worse.
Evil powers, especially witchcraft, had to be protected against if one wanted to avoid accidents in the stable, the barn, the house and the fields. For example, one had to put up steel, and everything that could be moving around had to be hidden away.
The Christmas tree was not known in the past, but the Yule log, which had the place of honor in the living room, was decorated with colored ribbons.
People also didn't give each other gifts, like we do today – but they still looked forward to Christmas, which they prepared for a long time.
Museum exhibitions
Age-appropriate dialogue-based tour with stories in the exhibitions, where we follow Christmas traditions on a journey back in time through 2000 years.
Activity
The students are divided into smaller groups. They bake gingerbread, bake good advice in the iron stove and churn butter in the kitchen. They make Christmas decorations from straw, dip candles and all gather around the Christmas table with rice porridge, which has been cooked in the hay box. For the 0th grade, the activity of making straw Christmas decorations is replaced with one of the old Christmas games – blindfold. Singing and dressing up connect the game with traditions and folk customs.
