W\u00e4hrend des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde in der N\u00e4he von Auning ein Auerochsensch\u00e4del gefunden, der sich heute in der Sammlung des Museums befindet. Das letzte Exemplar wurde 1627 in Polen erlegt, doch schon in der Steinzeit war es eine begehrte Beute. J\u00e4ger mit Hunden und bewaffnet mit Pfeil und Bogen schlichen sich dicht an das Tier heran, damit die Pfeile das Herz oder die Lunge des Auerochsen treffen konnten. Die gef\u00e4hrliche Jagd auf das eine Tonne schwere Tier k\u00f6nnte eine ganze Siedlung einen Monat oder l\u00e4nger mit Nahrung versorgen.<\/p>\n<p>Die Rekonstruktion des Auerochsen ist m\u00f6glicherweise die einzige ihrer Art auf der Welt. Es wurde vom Restaurator Karsten Feldsted auf Grundlage von Studien steinzeitlicher H\u00f6hlenmalereien, neueren Beschreibungen in der Literatur und Abg\u00fcssen von in Mooren gefundenen Knochen erstellt. Das Alter des Sch\u00e4dels wird auf 4.000 bis 5.000 Jahre datiert. In D\u00e4nemark gibt es \u00fcber 200 Funde von Auerochsensch\u00e4deln und -knochen, aber nicht viele davon sind so gut erhalten wie der Sch\u00e4del des Auning-Stiers.<\/p>\n<p>Der Auerochse war eine der gro\u00dfen Weidetiere, die die Landschaft pr\u00e4gten und dazu beitrugen, den Wald w\u00e4hrend der Jungsteinzeit offener zu halten. Ein weiteres gro\u00dfes Weidetier, das in D\u00e4nemark ebenfalls ausgestorben ist, ist der Elch. Doch im Lille Vildmose in Himmerland wurden 2015 Elche freigelassen, um das Hochmoor und das dort vorhandene, ganz besondere \u00d6kosystem zu sch\u00fctzen.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div
